- Blue Apron
I recently posted my unboxing review of Blue Apron and now I will do my taste test of the 3rd recipe they sent – Stuffed Squashes with Caesar Chicory Salad. In case you missed my initial unboxing please check it out here.
So what exactly is Blue Apron?
Blue Apron is a new concept in grocery delivery, built around incredible cooking experiences. They offer a once-a-week subscription service where they deliver all the fresh ingredients you need to make 3 meals, in exactly the right proportions. They’ve designed their service to teach you fun new recipes, save prep time and also reduce unnecessary waste. By letting them shop for you, they can bring you fresher and higher-quality food than you can get on your own in the supermarket, and for better prices!
Here’s how their subscription service works:
- Select the type of plan you want and the number of people
- Delivery is free, and they deliver the same day each week
- There’s no commitment: you can cancel anytime before the weekly cutoff
- Stick with them long enough and you’ll get additional free goodies in the mail!
Why is it called Blue Apron?
In France, it is an age-old tradition for young chefs to wear a Blue Apron while they master the art of cooking. In America, master chefs such as Julia Child and Thomas Keller have adopted the Blue Apron to symbolize the importance of lifelong learning. They named their company Blue Apron to remind us that amateur and expert chefs alike can always learn something new.
Here is a picture of the great recipe card and all the ingredients needed for this recipe. All I had to supply was water and oil. Everything else was perfectly portioned for this meal.
This was my least favorite recipe. It was delicious but the Masala Spice just wasn’t for me. The cucumber salad was amazing though. The recipe called for 1/2 raw onion in the salad. I’m not a big fan of raw onions in my salad so I sauteed them for a bit. I cooled them in the refrigerator while preparing the remainder of the meal. It worked perfectly for me. Since they included a full onion and I love sauteed onions I decided to throw the other 1/2 in with the chicken mixture. These recipes certainly offer plenty of opportunity to tweak them per individual tastes.
So what do I LOVE about Blue Apron? Where do I begin? As mentioned in previous posts I’m not big on cooking. At all! I hate stepping into grocery stores. In addition I struggle with picking the right recipes and buying ingredients I’m unlikely to use again, leading to waste. In addition cutting, measuring, planning all parts of the meal to be done at the same time and clean up are ALL such a hassle! Blue Apron all but eliminates these hassles. I get to:
- Avoid the grocery store
- Enjoy gourmet meals in 30 minutes
- Prepare meals with limited measuring and no waste
- Have very little cleanup
Do all of those sound appealing to you? If so, you’d also love Blue Apron.
